"Solomon Grundy" is a popular nursery rhyme in English-speaking world. The lyrics to the song were first collected by James Orchard Halliwell (a collector of fairy tales and nursery rhymes) in 1842.
It is quite a dramatic rhyme that tells a delightful tale of Solomon Grundy, who lives his entire life and then dies in just a one week. Born on the first day of a week, Monday, each day he is facing a different stage of life such as baptized on Tuesday, married on Wednesday, falls sick on Thursday, health worsens on Friday, dies on Saturday and at last he is buried on Sunday.
The rhyme gained lot of popularity and thus, was translated in different language including, French, Italian and German. The song is also a great tool to teach the days of a week in English to the preschoolers and kids.
