"Do You Know The Muffin Man", also popularly known as "The Muffin Man" is a traditional nursery rhyme and kids' song of English origin. The games such as a guessing game and a dancing ring are associated with the song, which is widely enjoyed by the kids.
The first version of the rhyme appeared in a British manuscript circa 1820, which is treasured in the Bodleian Library. The lyrics in the manuscript are very similar to those known today. The rhyme and game gained popularity in other parts of the world in the mid-nineteenth century, particularly the United States and the Netherlands.
As with many traditional nursery rhymes, regional variations in the lyrics can be observed. In one of the English version, "Drury Lane" is replaced with "Dorset Lane". While in the Dutch version, "Mussels" is used instead of “Muffins†and "Scheveningen" for "Drury Lane".
