Boston-based music publisher, Charles Bradlee took the first copyright of the “Alphabet Song” in 1835. “Z” is pronounced as Zee in the United States. However, in most of the English-speaking countries (including the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada) “Z” pronounced as Zed.
Lyrics of “Alphabet Song” are sometimes modified to accommodate the Zed pronunciation. In one of the variations, the second line is shortened and the last line is lengthened to form a near-rhyme between N and zed.
